Our multi-faceted approach ensures ocean safety education reaches everyone corner of Hawaii’s communities.
Aquatic Safety & Rescue Skills (ASRS)
Built around the Safe Buddy Framework™, ASRS teaches the essential skills for safer ocean adventures, including safe buddy rules, risk awareness, the proper use of safety equipment such as dive floats and flags, and how to recognize, respond to, and seek help during aquatic emergencies.
Community Outreach & Workshops
Interactive 2 hour workshops focused on Shallow Water Blackout awareness, freediving safety rules, and responsible spearfishing practices for Hawaiʻi’s ocean communities. Ideal for large groups.
Educational Resources
Free ocean safety resources, including Shallow Water Blackout awareness materials, educational videos, a youth Beginner Spearfishing Guide, and downloadable tools that support safer decisions in and around the water.
Safety Advocacy
Advancing water safety through public awareness campaigns, community partnerships, and collaboration with schools, nonprofits, and government agencies to support drowning prevention across Hawai’i.
Flagship Programs
Aquatic Safety & Rescue Skills (ASRS)

Prerequisite
Swimming skill requirement.
Classroom Instruction
Evidence-based foundational safety knowledge covering shallow water blackout, buddy system protocols, risk assessment, and emergency response.
Practical In-Water Skills
Supervised hands-on training in an aquatic environment, applying classroom principles through real-world rescue and safety skill drills.
Swimming Requirement
Participants must be able to swim 50 yards continuously and demonstrate basic water competency to take part in in-water training.
Safety Supervision
All in-water training is conducted at a maximum 6:1 student-to-instructor ratio with a dedicated surface surveillance lifeguard providing continuous oversight.
Safe Buddy Framework™
Learn how to work in buddy teams, maintain awareness, communicate effectively, and look out for one another in the water.
Dive Float & Flag Safety
Understand how floats and dive flags improve visibility, support safer ocean recreation, and provide flotation when needed.
Pre-Water Safety Checks
Build a safety-first mindset by checking conditions, coordinating with your buddy team, identifying exit points, and ensuring essential safety equipment is in place before entering the water.
Airway Protection & Getting Help
Develop practical skills for protecting the airway, using flotation devices, and seeking assistance when someone needs help in the water.
Water Safety Leadership
Build confidence, responsibility, and leadership skills that promote safer behaviors among peers and community members.
Ocean Awareness & Decision Making
Build awareness of ocean conditions and environmental hazards to support safer planning, communication, and decision-making.
