Volunteer

While our team of professional, certified freediving instructors teach the FreediveSafe! programs, there are several other areas that you can volunteer and assist in for the success of FreediveSafe!. This includes site set up, student check in, handing out t-shirts, freediving equipment, transportation for participants to and from the training location, and site pack up.

Donate

Donate to our cause to give more people access to our FREE, lifesaving training. Every spearfisherman, freediver, waterman and waterwomen this safety program reaches makes a difference to our community.

Participate

FreediveSafe! events are open to all freedivers or spearfisherman. If you  hold your breath and swim underwater, you are invited to join our program! These are free programs to the public paid for by donations. We provide formal freediving safety training to everyone. Our team of  professional, highly trained, certified freediving instructors with Freediving Instructors International (F.I.I.) lead our programs and ensure all participants receive the highest level of freediving safety training.

All participants must pre-register for FreediveSafe! programs. We are currently hosting programs on all Hawaiian Islands and expanding our events to the mainland.

FII Basic Freediving Safety program is conducted over four hours with a minimum of six participants.  The curricular includes a two hour freediving safety presentation and two hours of confined water practical training.  Lunch is provided to our participants.  We provide masks, snorkels and fins for the practical training but if you have your own please bring them.  Minimum age is 12-years-old and older.

Freediving Safety presentations are available to any club, school or community group. Our professional freediving instructor will provide your group with an in-depth presentation on the risks associated with breath-hold related activities (spearfishing, freediving, surfing), how to minimize these risks and the important safety protocols to follow in the event of an emergency.  Presentations are adapted to group and age level and we believe no one is too young or too old to hear this information.

Basic Freediving Safety Program

Our team of professional, highly trained, certified freediving instructors provide the highest level of freediving safety training available.

Program details:

  • Duration: 4 hours
  • 2 hours in class
  • 2 hours in confined water
  • Minimum age: 12+ years old

All participants must pre-register for the FreediveSafe! program.

Junior Freediver Program (Available January 2021)

This course sets the next generation of freedivers/spearfishermen on the best and safest path to enjoy this sport. Students will build protective habits, advance their watermanship skills and knowledge, and learn how to be responsible freedivers and spearfishermen.

Program details:

  • Duration: 2 days
  • Fun, easily digestible curricula adapted by grade school teaching professionals
  • Games and activities that teach freediving skills and key safety protocols
  • Training to dive a maximum depth of 50 feet (15 meters)
  • Maximum 4:1 student-instructor ratio

This training is a must for your child to have the most effective experience in learning proper freedive safety techniques. Parents are encouraged to attend with their children.

FreediveSafe! Presentations

A professional freediving instructor will provide groups with an educational presentation customized to the needs of the group.

Presentation details:

  • Duration: 40 minutes + 15 minute Q&A
  • Learn risks associated with breath-hold related activities
  • Learn how risks are mitigated with formal training
  • Learn the correct approach for divers and communities to safely enjoy freediving/spearfishing
  • Available to any club, school, or community group
  • Adapted to group and age level
