FreediveSafe Aquatic Safety & Rescue Skills (ASRS) Program

Build the knowledge and confidence to participate more safely in ocean activities. The FreediveSafe Aquatic Safety & Rescue Skills (ASRS) Program is a safety-focused course designed for recreational ocean users, including freedivers, spearfishers, snorkelers, and shell collecting. Participants learn essential buddy safety procedures, ocean safety, risk recognition, emergency response, airway protection, and foundational rescue skills through classroom instruction and supervised in-water training.

Program Schedule

  • 1 Hour Classroom Instruction
  • 1.5 Hours Practical In-Water Training

  • Youth and adults seeking to improve their aquatic safety skills

Participant Requirements

  • Minimum age: 10 years and older
  • Ability to swim 50 yards unassisted
  • Complete a Waiver and Medical Release
  • Participants 18 years and younger must have a parent or legal guardian sign the waiver and medical release.

This community-based program emphasizes prevention, buddy accountability, and practical safety skills to help participants make safer decisions while enjoying Hawaiʻi’s ocean environment.
